How to remove a photo's background

  1. Add your image

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP image. The cut-out starts right away, with nothing to configure.

  2. Compare with the original

A before/after slider lets you check the edges: hair, thin borders, areas the same color as the background.

  3. Pick the background and download

Transparent, white, black or any color. Export as PNG to keep transparency, or as JPG and WebP.

When to use it

Product photos on a white background

Marketplaces ask for a plain background. Cut out the object, pick the white background and export as JPG.

A logo to place on any background

A logo saved with its white rectangle becomes a transparent PNG, reusable on a site, in a presentation or as a watermark on your photos.

A profile picture

Replace a cluttered backdrop with a plain color that matches your branding.

Good to know before cutting out

  • "Browser" mode: the cut-out is computed on your device. On first use the browser downloads the cut-out model, which it then keeps in cache; that first run is therefore slower.
  • "Server" mode: the image is uploaded without its metadata (EXIF and GPS position are removed on your device before upload), processed in memory without being stored, and limited to 10 MB.
  • Results are cleanest when the subject stands out from the background. Fine hair, transparent objects and a background the same color as the subject give rougher edges.
  • Only PNG and WebP keep transparency. As JPG, a transparent background turns white.
  • One image at a time, with no manual touch-up of the mask.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a PNG with a transparent background?

Leave the background option on "transparent" and download as PNG. The grey checkerboard shown on screen stands for transparency: it is not part of the file.

Is it really free and without a watermark?

Yes. The image comes back at its original dimensions, with no watermark and no sign-up.

Is my photo sent anywhere?

Not in "In your browser" mode: only the cut-out model is downloaded, your image stays on your device. In "On our server" mode it is uploaded, processed in memory and not kept.

Why is the first cut-out slow?

In browser mode the model has to be downloaded first, then speed depends on your device. On an older phone, server mode will be faster.
