How to convert an image

  1. Add your images

Drop up to 20 images. In browser mode, any format your browser can display is accepted: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF on recent browsers.

  2. Pick the output format

JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP, a slider sets the quality (92 by default).

  3. Convert and download

Each file's size is shown before and after. Download images one by one or as a ZIP; original names are kept, with the new extension.

When to use it

A site that rejects WebP

Many forms still accept only JPG or PNG. Convert the image you saved from the web before uploading it.

A PNG that is too heavy

A photo saved as PNG weighs several times its JPG equivalent. Converting it to JPG or WebP fixes that without changing its dimensions.

Moving a site to WebP

Convert a page's visuals in batches of 20 and compare the resulting sizes before putting them online.

Good to know before converting

  • JPG has no transparency: transparent areas of a PNG or WebP turn white. PNG and WebP keep them.
  • Converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back lost quality: the file gets heavier, not better. PNG is useful for logos, diagrams and screenshots, not for photos.
  • From an animated GIF, only the first frame is converted.
  • iPhone HEIC photos can only be read by Safari: in other browsers the file is rejected.
  • In both modes the converted file holds no metadata (EXIF, GPS): in server mode it is removed on your device before upload. That mode accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and AVIF up to 10 MB, processes the image in memory and does not store it.

Frequently asked questions

Which format should I pick: JPG, PNG or WebP?

JPG for a photo you need to send anywhere. PNG for a logo, a diagram, a screenshot or any image with transparency. WebP for the web: it handles transparency and weighs less, but some software and forms still reject it.

Does converting reduce quality?

To PNG, no: the format is lossless. To JPG or WebP, the image is re-encoded with loss; at 92 the difference is not visible. Just avoid chained conversions, since each lossy re-encode adds to the previous one.

How do I convert a WebP to JPG?

Drop the WebP file, pick JPG and run the conversion. If the image had a transparent background, it turns white.

Can I get an ICO file for a favicon?

Not here. The favicon generator produces favicon.ico along with every PNG size and the HTML to paste.
