Blur an image or sharpen it

Two sliders, a preview, JPEG, PNG or WebP output. This tool processes the image on our server.

Your image is sent to our server, processed in memory and never stored. Its metadata (EXIF, GPS position) is removed before upload for JPEG, PNG and WebP files.

How to blur or sharpen an image

  1. Add your image

Drop an image of 10 MB at most: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF or AVIF.

  2. Set the blur or the sharpness

Blur goes from 0 to 250, sharpness from 0 to 10. Both sliders act on the whole image.

  3. Apply and download

Pick JPEG, PNG or WebP output, apply, check the result, then download.

When to use it

A background for text

A heavily blurred photo becomes a banner, slide or header background on which a title stays readable.

Giving some bite back to a soft photo

A sharpness of 1 to 3 is enough after downsizing or for a slightly out-of-focus photo. Beyond that, halos appear around edges.

A placeholder visual

A very blurry, very light version of an image, shown while the sharp one loads.

Good to know

  • This tool only works on our server: the image is uploaded, processed in memory and sent back, without being stored.
  • Blur applies to the whole image. The tool cannot blur a chosen area, such as a face or a license plate.
  • Before upload, metadata of JPEG, PNG and WebP files (EXIF, GPS position) is removed on your device: it never reaches our server and is not in the file you get back.
  • Sharpening strengthens existing edges; it fixes neither motion blur nor missed focus.

Frequently asked questions

Can I blur just a face or a license plate?

No: the sliders act on the whole image. To hide a specific area you need an image editor with a selection tool.

Why does this tool go through a server?

Large-radius blur and sharpening are computed by the image processing service we use on the server side. The image is neither saved nor reused there; if you would rather nothing left your device, this tool is not the right fit.

Which sharpness value should I pick?

Start at 1 or 2 and compare. A high value creates bright halos along edges and brings out grain.

Does blur reduce file size?

Yes: a blurry image holds less detail and compresses better. To cut size without touching the content, use the compressor instead.
